There is almost no industry that is not affected by new media and communication technologies, such as the smartphone specifically or the internet in general. Schools allow their pupils to enrole themselves online, universities present massive open online courses (moocs) and even medial practitioners rely on the digital exchange of personal information of their patients. These examples clearly show that technology influences a huge part of our lives, even when we not knowing it.
But what about „traditional“ industries, such as locksmith companies, plumbers or roofer? How do they interact with these technologies? Do they really feel that their work has become unnecessarily or do they use these technologies in such a way that their work is enriched?
Let’s take the locksmith industry, for example. This is one of the oldest industries in America, but one that has managed to overcome all the obstacles that show up when society develops. Even nowadays, there are many locksmith companies opened, throughout the country. But aren´t there any devices that help the locksmith to do a better job?
Users are often more experienced with these devices
These devices exist, but they are more often integrated on the user site. The locksmith employee doesn´t really use these devices for his daily work, however he knows these devices very good and can use them fairly easy or integrate them as a security means into the house.
For example, the user has an electronic device which is connected to his smartphone. This device is carried where the bunch of keys are normally carried. So the user doesn´t really feels the difference between a bunch of keys and the electronic device.
This device has a sensor that communicates with another sensor in the house. When there is a connection between these two sensors, that communicate directly via Wifi, data packages are exchanged and therefore the system checks whether the enter code is among these data packages. When there is a match. The door opens and the house owner can enter his house.
What are the advantages?
That means that it will not be a problem if you lose your bunch of keys or forget them on teh coffee table at work. Because with that electronic device you will be able to unlock the door anyway. But on the other hand, there are disadvantages too.
Like every device that is connected via Wifi, there are security aspects that you should take into account. Don´t forget that you don´t have a smartphone. You rather have a small computer in your pocket that allows you to make calls. Therefore you have to install a very good Anti Virus software. If you don´t do this and your code will be seen by someone you don´t want to see it, the chances are very good that you sooner or later will have someone that breaks into your house.
So to make yourself a favor and to prevent others from traumas, it is very important that you put much value into the security aspects.
